First, born.
It’s interesting, isn’t it? Everything is a first, has a first, was a first. Even if it wasn’t your first it was someone’s first.
I am not the first to create a skincare line that ends up being an answer to others, but that doesn’t mean it keeps me from sharing the lengths; where I get to invite you to a quiet space of where it all began.
Cries in the dark, unexplainable tears that seemed to never end. No amount of rocking, soundscapes of rain, oceans nor rainforest could bring comfort. What do I do? What am I missing? My sweet baby couldn’t rest & neither could I.
I always thought that because I did not have certain experiences as a child that I would not have them in Motherhood when I bared and birth my own. Life tells us that we cannot plan how our children will be born- yet we pray for a child who is capable of living, who is healthy in each way, born without life threatening complications but we still can be so unprepared for even less of those complexities & later it turns out that this is your responsibility.
Immense inflammation and red patches covered his small 4-month-old body from neck to ankles. Thick, desert dry cradle crap robbed his hair and scalp; I’d later learn his immune system rejected dairy, soy-based protein and soy implemented foods. I learned to watch closely, changed what I consumed during his nursing years and after sworn-by brands did not yield comfort, ease or penetrate the broken skin I asked doctors. Steroids suppressed and dried his skin. So, I worked from the outside in, inside out.
Oat milk baths, olive oil bath, minty infused baths, and yes brand emollients but they were minimal in my experience. One day, I was in my mom’s kitchen & it dawned on me; ROOTS. I need to go back home, to nature. I’d never forget when my grandmother made me a cup of what she called green tea; I was better the next day. I got into the holistic lab and created Green Leaves. This was a step-by-step regimen and like any regimen there is never simply apply and hope, they are dedicated systems that build the skin’s resilience to begin the repair from the cellular compounds. First I tried Shea Butter— nuh uh, breakout. Shea is a nut tree, my son’s barrier said try again. I tried cocoa butter, nu uh my son’s skin said c’mon now. But cocoa wasn’t ineffective, it just did have what the skin was looking for (I guess I speak nature now).
After 9+ months in the holistic lab, I discovered Mango butter uhn hun my son’s skin said. & the journey began there. As a health food conscious individual, I naturally and creatively curated targeted meals that worked with the formulation.
Since this is a quiet space where we unwind, share and grow with one another, I want to invite you back for the next Journal entry when you decide you want a heartfelt story that doesn’t compromise your important journeys awaiting ahead for you.
